Is it just me?

Or does anyone else still try to turn the lights on when the electricity is out? Yep. Electricity went out and I went straight to my closet to get the laundry and yes sir, I flipped the switch. Well, today our electricity was off for a few hours. I knew it would be because the electric company sent us a notice in the mail. I thought I was prepared for it and I had a few things I wanted to get done. I knew I could still rinse the dishes and put them in the dishwasher and sort the laundry. I also thought about catching up on some phone calls I need to make. Ha! Here is a list of the things I tried to do, but realized I need electricity to be able to do them.
1. RUN the dishwasher
2. Wash the laundry I sorted
3. Go to the grocery store (garage door powered by opener)
4. Charge cell phone to be able to return my calls - home phones are cordless and require electricity.
5. Watch GMA
6. Post to the blog (I was going to do Pumpkin Patch pictures, but I'll do them tomorrow)
7. Send email
8. Vacuum the car
Yes. I did actually try to do all of these things. I would think "oh, I can go do _______ while the power is out" and I would walk to do it and then feel really stupid. Brian did figure out how to open the garage door manually so I was able to go get the kids some lunch. I couldn't make them anything because the stove and microwave weren't working. As far as the vacuuming goes - that's the one that made me laugh out loud at myself - I literally took the vacuum to the garage and almost plugged it in before I remembered we had no electricity. I'm dumb.
What I could do while the electricity was out was take pictures. My camera battery was charged and so that was my form of entertainment for the morning. Below you'll see Sadie & Joe's entertainment. Have a wonderful day and count your blessings for electricity!

I LOVE the expression on Joe's face here!

Is it a microphone??

Mersadie sitting in the toy basket. She still doesn't give away too many smiles for the camera.

I did manage to catch ONE smile today. You should have heard the way I had to sing "the itsy bitsy spider" to get it though!

And here's Joe! Always willing to cooperate for me!

Yup, I would have done, and have done, some, if not all, of those things you tried to do!! You're not alone, my friend! And smile or not, she is just beautiful!! And Joe, he's a little cutie pie himself.

I know what you mean. I always try to do something that requires electricity when we have none. It's always fun to go to bed when the power's out only to be woken up at 3 a.m. (when the power is restored) to tons of lights, that you forgot to switch off. :) I have done that on more than one occasion.

At least the kiddos are little. Try having a teenager in the house without electricity. No TV, no computer, no internet, no video games. Yipes! I love the photos of the kids with the flashlight. Too cute! You just want to pick them up and kiss their sweet little baby cheeks.
